Book Club!

Book club have been reading 'Gangsta Granny' by David Walliams. There is a copy available in the school library if you are interested in reading it. So far, we have decided that it is humorous and has some funny pictures! Some of our favourite bits include where a local shopkeeper does rubbish offers on out of date food, like "buy one box of Cornetto's and I will give you 10 boxes for free!" There is also lots of talk about Granny's saggy bottom!! We will tell you more soon, Alice, Kayleigh, Georgie and Isla x

Can you guess where Year 6 ended up on Wednesday?

It really was a tough trip but we decided to tough it out! We even left on time as Mrs Chandler went by other means. We collected Mrs White a little later due to the usual Gloucester traffic but we soon made it.

We entered the tour by going back in time and learning more about the Aztecs and then the birth of the Cadbury vision. We were entertained and informed by real life actors and some rather clever 3D films. The 4D experience was also great fun!
We were given chocolate due to our super behaviour, Mrs White was actually given extra or at least that was her explanation! The chocolate sculptures were fabulous and were almost too good to eat.....well almost!

As always the children behaved fantastically well and were commended by the staff at the factory. To top it all off not one sick bag was used!

Friendship

The value focus in assembly this week has been friendship. Year 5 have continued this theme in their CPHSE lessons. The children worked in small groups to write a poem or friendship recipe for what makes a good friend. Here are some examples of the fab work they produced.

A friend is ....
A friend is a friend no doubt about that
I'm looking for a friend whose kind and generous and friendly
That's all I'm looking for
Kind, friendly, nice and generous
That's all friendships are about
By Ollie and Jacey

A friend is .....
A friend is someone who cares a lot
A friend is someone who shares
A friend is someone who stands by your side
also someone who is a very good guide
A friend is a gitft that you will never forget

Visit to the Cotswold Wildlife Park

As part of our Africa topic, Year 4 visited the Cotswold Wildlife Park. We had a great experience talking to the zoo keepers and spotting African animals within the different enclosures.
We were extremely lucky as we had the opportunity to see the Cotswold Wildlife Park's first baby rhino. It was very cute! Another one is due any day so we are busy checking for news on their website.
This visit will help us to compare different animals and consider how they have adapted and how they cope living in different habitats.

School Council

On the 17th of September 2013, Kayleigh, Lara and Alice went to meet Richard and Jay who were building a memorial loom for Mrs Waite. The decision has been made that we will plant a Willow tree and build an arch, the willow will form over the arch and Mrs White will place a bench inside the  arch if children want to have quiet time to remember Mrs Waite. The purpose of the loom is to remember her artistic personality. Anyone on the School Council will take part in weaving the materials on the loom.

We were thinking about decorating the loom with purple and pink flowers. The loom will have a plaque remembering Mrs Waite and every year that goes by we will change it.

Exploring The Forest

As part of our Literacy work on familiar settings, Year 3 explored the local forest today. To help us develop words to describe our different senses we had fun walking through squelching mud, splashing through puddles, listening to the sounds of the forest and touching things that grow.
Whilst we walked, we also had time to pick some delicious plump blackberries which we turned into scrumptious cakes ready for the Parents' tea and cake afternoon tomorrow. We hope you enjoy them!

Happy Puzzle Company

Today, every year group had a maths thinking session with the Happy Puzzle Company. Year 5 wrote reviews and Taylor's has been chosen to be displayed on the blog.

Taylor's review
On Monday the 16th of September Dan from the Happy Puzzle Company came to our school. He played fun games with us so we could help an imaginary man called Nathan Bolt escape from Logic Island. We had to put his cargo on his ship by balancing it and we had to move rocks by placing them in a digger carefully. Also, we had to crack a code to win the key for Nathan Bolts helicopter using a cypher. We all cracked the code and he escaped in a helicopter.
We had to show great teamwork working in groups to help him escape. I would give it 9 out of 10 because it was fun and helped us develop our teamwork.

All of the children enjoyed the challenges set for them and worked very hard without realising they were actually doing maths!!!

Hot Seating

As part of our work on the story of Little Red Riding Hood Year 3 hot seated different characters from the story. First we had a visit from Red Riding Hood and then we each took on the roles of the 5 different characters. We thought of some interesting questions to ask each of the characters and were able to explore their thoughts and feelings . We had some very talented actors!
