Gloucester Folk Musuem

Year 5 went to Gloucester Folk Musuem on Wednesday to experience life as a victorian school child, a domestic servant and to look at Victorian toys.
The Victorian teacher was very scary and strict and wouldn't even let children write with their left hand or slouch in their chairs. Boys were made to cross their arms at all times and all children were not allowed to speak unless spoken to.
A fantastic day was had by all and as usual the children were fantastic members of Coalway Junior School ~ well done year 5!

How Can We Get Plop To Sleep?

As part of our class reading book 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark',Year 3 have been finding out all about Plop the Owl who, much to his parent's dismay, does not sleep in the day time. As part of our science work on light we carried out investigations to determine which material would be most suitable for curtains to block out the light so that he will finally get some rest.
We made our predictions and then tested each material fairly so that we could determine which material would be most effective.

Year 4 Printing in Art

This week Year 4 have been developing their printing skills in Art and have created some fantastic prints inspired by African patterns.

We used a printing block and etched a pattern into it. We then pressed the printing block down to reveal a pattern. It was very tricky to get right; we had to practice our technique a couple of times to get it just right.

Year 4 Harvest Assembly 2013!

On Wednesday 2nd October, Year 4 performed their Harvest assembly to the whole school and then performed it to parents and carers in the afternoon. This year our assembly was all about the history of the Harvest festival. We learnt some very interesting facts!
Year 4 did a super job of learning some very tricky lines and were fabulous when performing to the whole school.

In our assembly we included some of the acrostic poems that we had written in R.E. Here are some examples that were read out in our assmebly:

H is for happiness for the food we eat,
A is for appreciation for the things we have,
R is for rain that helps the crops grow,
V is for the variety of fruit and veg,
E is for eating everything we grow,
S is for the sun that feeds our plants,
T is to say thank you for the farmers and God.

By Isobel Class 4

Investigating Multiplication Facts

During Numeracy, to develop our understanding of our times tables,Year 3 have been carrying out investigations on multiplication facts. We had to prove whether the facts were true or false by using our knowledge of the number patterns and different apparatus.
