End of Year Awards Assembly

And the winners are .......

House of the Year

All the children celebrated and congratulated the achievements attained by so many pupils.

The winning house team was a hard fought contest, all four houses being within a thousand points of each other.  The overall winning house was ... (drum role please)  OWLS! The trophy was collected on Owls behalf by Emily and Jordan - WELL DONE EVERYONE!

Sports Day trophy
Sports day was yet again a heavily competitive but fun day.  The children thoroughly enjoyed all the fun activities culminating in the ice lolly feast.  On this occasion the trophy was won by Falcons (see previous posts).

Attendance awards
We have had great attendance this year achieving more than 95%!  Well done everyone.

Seven of our children had 100% attendance for the whole year - a superb effort.  Harri was the lucky winner of the attendance draw and won an IPod Shuffle.

Peter Edwards trophy
A great honour for the recipient of this annual trophy.  This year that person was Millie - a super sportsperson in a range of events. Her determination, dedication and ambition to achieve is of the highest order. Peter would approve of having Millie's name engraved on his trophy. Well done.

Football

Lads v Dads Football

For the second year running the Dads dusted off their boots and struggled to fit into their shorts! How the lads wished they hadn't! The Dads kept hold of the ball, it was remarked that it was like watching Brazil, and made the school team run around in circles. Mr Freeman-Jones clattered anything that moved whilst Mr Nicholls showed off his artistry on the ball - not bad for a centre half. Mr Brain continued where he left off in 1997 missing several heading opportunities and Mr Winfield showed power and pace. Mr Harris demonstrated great control wherever he played and Mr Barrow was....well, Mr Barrow! At half time the Dad's held a slender 4-3 lead. Enter Mrs Brain, the lads didn't score again whilst the Dads (and Mrs Brain) continued to score 4 more! Mr Brain was heard to remark that 'it was a lot easier than I thought it would be!!!!'

Harvesting, Cooking and Eating!

We have had great fun this week in the sunshine, harvesting our crops. We managed to successfully grow some beautiful potatoes, broad beans, lettuce, onions  and some delicious rhubarb.
After harvesting the only thing left to do was the tasting!
We prepared some lovely summer salad, cooked the new potatoes and an enormous rhubarb crumble. In the afternoon we had a fun filled picnic, joined by Mrs White and Miss Bunn, under the shade of the trees.
What a great topic!

Over Farm

As part of our Good Life topic, Year 3 visited Over Farm. We learnt about the different aspects of farming and growing crops. Walking around the fields we developed our understanding of the different ways that plants such as runner beans, rhubarb and asparagus grow.
We were also able to taste some of the fruit and vegetables straight from the plant. They were delicious especially the strawberries!

We've had the Terrible Tudors, now for the Groovy Greeks!  Y5 children enjoyed making pitta bread, working together on puzzling puzzles and finding out more about the Greeks with interactive Greek adventures and challenges.
