Parents Get Lost! (PGL)

Year 5 have just returned from a FANTASTIC weekend at PGL, Marchants Hill, in Surrey!

Over the weekend, we got up to loads of fun and sometimes scary activities, including:

• Giant Swing
• Zip Wire
• Power Fan
• Abseiling
• Quad Biking
• Rifle Shooting
• Initiative Exercises
• Ambush
• Orienteering
• Jacob's Ladder
• Aeroball
• Whacky Races
• Disco

The children were impeccably behaved all weekend, so much so, that the instructors all wanted Coalway Junior School children in their activity groups! What does it say - Coalway Junior School really is the best!

Eco-schools day

Nathan and Amy were invited to an Eco-schools day at the Wilderness Centre where they attended several workshops . This one shows them placing items of rubbish on a timeline according to how long they thought it would take for each item to decay. Everyone was amazed at how long some items took to disappear. Nathan and Amy both felt this activity is one that all pupils at Coalway should do so that they could understand the importance of re-using and recycling.

Pig Poo!

Today, Mr Duncan from Christian Aid came to talk to us about pig poo!

People in Nigeria are using a 'digester' to turn pig poo into a gas that they can cook with. This gas lasts for two weeks, after which time they just add more poo!
We talked about the environmental advantages of using this method rather than non-renewable sources as pigs renew their poo very regularly!


Thankyou to Mr Duncan for coming into school once again to talk to us about the work carried out by Christian Aid.

SEEDS FOR AFRICA APPEAL

A huge thank you to everyone who sent in their coppers for the Seeds for Africa Appeal. The year 4 children had a great time filling in the outlines of fruit and vegetables! As you can see from the photographs there is a huge number of coppers (and some silver and even a couple of pound coins) to count so we will let you know the total raised when we have finished counting!

PGL TRIP

Year 5 children have arrived safely at PGL. The children are all settled in their rooms and have enjoyed an evening of playing hide and seek (made harder by playing in the wooded area and even harder as it was already dark) GREAT FUN!!!

Year 5’s Fantastic Suprise!

On the 2nd of November, year five had a Victorian afternoon. Mrs. Dixon and Miss. Frowen were dressed up as Victorian teachers. Miss. Frowen had the boys who had to walk with their hands behind their backs and Mrs. Dixon had the girls who had to walk with their hands by their side.

Girls.
Some of the badly behaved girls had punishments. Girls, girls, girls, they have to be a little naughty. The girls had to read out loud to the class and if they got stuck on a word it was tough luck so they had to sound it out.

Boys.
The boys were naughty and got more punishments then the girls. Boys, boys, boys, how rude to be naughty. They drew stuff on slates and learnt a lot of things.

Lessons.
Every person, boy and girl, enjoyed every lesson. Everyone did the three R’s which are Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic. We also did drill which is exercising.

Fun!!
It was a good day and we would love to do it again!!!!!!
