Y5 Planetarium

A GIANT inflateable planetarium whisked Year 5 away on a journey through the solar system and beyond.

This out-of-the -world experience was brought to the school hall by 'Space Odyssey' - a mobile planetarium run by Simon Ould. We learnt about the Sun, Earth and Moon as well as the other planets and stars. We were able to see a 360 degree view of the solar system above our heads!!! It was a super start to our space theme.

Year 3 have been busy making Roman Shields as part of their Roman Invasion theme. They thought about the properties of the materials that the Romans would have used to make them really strong.

A Roman Soldier came to visit and brought his full size shield! After he shared lots of information with us about the soldiers and the army, Year 3 went into the hall and learnt to march like soldiers. They made a 'tortoise', this was how the Roman army sometimes marched to protect themselves.

Coalway Chess Club is up and running and pupils are having great fun leaning how the different pieces move around the board. The league will be starting soon and there is some great competition ahead. Good luck to all who are taking part but remember, the most important thing is to learn the game and have fun!

Year 3 have had a lot of fun learning French with pupils from Lakers. They have provided lots of fun activites and games to help us learn our colours and answer questions about ourselves.

Y3 Art - The Celts

Y3 had fun learning about The Celts through art activities.

This picture shows Y3 painting a life size picture of people who lived during Celtic Britain. Can you see the colourful designs that they used?

Some of us made jewellery because the Celts loved their jewellery. A group of us learned how to weave as this was how the Celts made their fabrics for their clothing.

We made round houses to show the types of housing the Celts used. They would use mud and straw, then grass would often grow on the roofs of the houses.

Inter-school sporting challenge

Year 5 pupils were invited by Mr. Tomley, from Lakers School, to RFDC leisure centre to take part in a fun inter-school sporting challenge. The children took part in a variety of team races and individual challenges such as long jump and throwing skills. Our school was divided into three teams and each team was assigned a Sports Leader from the college. It was a great morning with all the pupils taking part and having lots of fun.

On Friday 3rd December Year 5 experienced real Victorian School lessons from reciting poems and singing hymns to writing on chalk boards and reading from the Bible. The children were under strict rules: they were not allowed to speak, fidget or even put their hand up! Some children even got punished and had to wear the 'D' hat at the back of the classroom. A fun afternoon was had by all, although it was slightly scary!
