Our visit to SPP Pumps

On our visit we had a tour around SPP Pumps. Laura showed us around the factory and all the pumps. The red pumps were for putting out fires, the blue ones for just pumping water (flooding) and last but not least the green one is for everything, these can also come in other colours.  When we saw the engineers on their computers they introduced CAD (this stands for Computer Aided Design). CAD took the place of the engineers making proper technical drawings with pencil and paper.  Now because of CAD, the process is much quicker as the information can be sent directly to the machines downstairs that make the model.

We went upstairs to have some biscuits and squash and were given a challenge.  The challenge was to build a tower made from paper, masking tape and nuts and bolts.  The tallest and strongest would win.  It had to hold first a packet of jammy dodgers, then an SPP pump water bottle and lastly a can of Pepsi.  WE WON! Our design was equal first but we won because ours was the cheapest to make (used less parts).  It was an amazing experience.  Written by J, N, O, B, and K - Y5 children

Sports Day 2013

S P O R T S   D A Y

A fabulous day, sunshine, blue sky and cut grass.  The children enjoyed a round robin of activities to suit all abilities and ages.  This was followed by running races which were heavily contested. All results from every activity and race were collated and the winning house was ....... FALCONS!  The results were very close, each team amassing thousands of points.

The day was rounded off by very necessary ice lollies courtesy of the Parent Teacher Association - thank you!

Three Counties Show

As part of our Good Life topic Year 3 visited The Three Counties Show. The different events were brilliant and we had a great time learning about different aspects of farming. There was so much to see such as sheep being sheared, blacksmiths at work,  as well as meeting the celebrity Adam Henson!

Capacity

As part of our work on capacity, Year 3 had lots of fun estimating and measuring different amounts of water. We calibrated different containers, estmated how much different containers would hold and accurately measured different amounts in millilitres and litres.

Year 3 Visit to Coleford Baptist Church

Year 3 have been learning all about  where, how and why people worship. As part of this work we had the pleasure of visiting Coleford Baptist Church. We had a lovely afternoon singing, sharing bread as well as developing our understanding of why people worship. We were also very fortunate to meet their visitors from Texas who told us all about the way they worship in their church.
