Coalway Junior School Gardening Club have been really fortunate to receive a £350 donation through the Nisa Making a Difference Locally charity. This was presented to the club by the store manager of our local Tuffins store during asssembly.
This will be a great help and enable the Gardening club to grow a larger variety of produce as they can now afford to purchase a fantastic new green house.

Year 3 Visit To Dean Heritage Centre

Year 3 had a super day visiting Dean Heritage Centre as part of their work on Forest Capers. We learnt what is what like to live in the Forest of Dean years ago and how this compared to life in the area today.

During our visit we took part in various different workshops; learning about the life of a miner, the life of a charcoal burner as well as visiting the Victorian cottage and the museum.
Once back at school we used this information to inspire our report writing and completed some fantastic reports on charcoal burning.

Having a fabulous time in France

We are having a wonderful time in France. The children went up the Eiffel Tower and then went on their boat trip down the Seine. We have been very lucky with the weather. Beautiful sunshine yesterday so we have some fantastic photo's. Off to Disney tomorrow and then home Tuesday morning.

Skip For Fun

On Thursday the 20th of October we held a 'Skip For Fun' Day. Each child worked in a group of 3 and between them they had to skip for 20 minutes. The children soon realised that this was a really long time to skip for!!

We saw a variety of skipping skills ranging from hopping, skipping backwards, long jump rop and skipping with a partner. All of the children completed the 'Skip for Fun' challenge and had fun in the process!!

Cross Country at Lakers

What a couple of great races! Cross country at Lakers, combined with intermittent showers and a supporting audience of Coalway cheering parents. There were about 40 children in total running from schools around the area. The top six children in each race will go through to the next stage.

Millie 6th, Izzy 7th, Ruby 9th, Alanah 12th, Freya 16th.

The boys race:- Harri 3rd, Jacob 4th, Henry 8th, Conner 13th, Kyran 16th, Fraser 19th.

Cross Country

Mr Tomley from Lakers came to school last Thursday. He laid out a cross country course for all of the Y5 and Y6 children to run.

Year Four Harvest Assembly

Did you get to see the Year 4 Harvest Assembly? If not, then you missed a real TREAT! We all learned how important clean water is to everyone for a healthy life. Every time you flush the toilet, you use 9.5 litres of water, while people in Ethiopia only have 5 litres of water to use in a day. Another interesting fact is that only 3% of the water on earth is available for us to use! We certainly learned a lot.

The children sang a Harvest Samba and a traditional African song beautifully. They then explained how we can help other people across the world to live healthy lives by making a contribution to Water Aid or Seeds for Africa. This helps them not only grow healthy, vitamin rich vegetables and fruit, but to have clean water to drink. Have you filled an envelope with spare change yet? Please return your contribution to school - we have spare envelopes if you didn't get one.

Year 5 trip to the Black Country Museum

Year 5 had a fantastic day on Friday when we went to the Black Country Museum. We were taken back in time to the Victorians and learnt so much. We went into a house and were told that this would have been where a family of 13 would have lived, it was TINY! We experienced what it would have been like to work in a coalmine and were even taught by a Victorian teacher. We travelled on a tram, bought traditional sweets and shopped in the Hardware Store. A great day was had by all.

European Languages Day 26th September

European Languages Day.

Y6 worked together this afternoon. First they had to 'spot the celebrity' and then find the country they came from on a map of the world. Next the children sang a song to the tune of 'Is this the way to Amarillo' with colours in Spanish as the words. After this they looked at the work of Joan Miro, a Spanish artist and created work in his style using pencils, paint, chalk or collage. A fun afternoon was had by all.

Year 3 have had lots of fun walking through the woods to test their senses in order to inspire their Literacy work. We have been squelching through the mud (parents too!!), listening to the sounds and sights all around us. We had a fantastic time!

YEAR 4 TRIP

16th September

What a great day Year 4 children had at The Cotswold Wildlife Park! Although the weather forecast was not good, the rain held off until the very end of the day and so we all stayed dry.

We saw so many different animals we almost lost count and learned so much about the animals from Africa.The talks by the Park Rangers were fascinating and gave us a lot to think about and look for as we made our way around the enclosures. Did you know that giraffe have black tongues? It helps to stop them getting sunburnt when they are eating.

As usual, the Meerkats were sooooooooooo popular - they didn't speak to us though! We all came away wishing we could have the next trip to the Masai Mara......what do you think Mrs. White?

Despite a few hiccupups on the way home (which involved the use of many plastic bags!) everyone agreed it had been an informative and magical day.

Thanks to Mrs. Martin for her hard work in organising it all and to all parents who accompanied us.

Making Cakes

In preparation for our trip to Cadbury World on Wednesday 14th, class 7 have been writing about an object or place made entirely from chocolate and/or sweets. Read on for a couple of tasty examples of the creative writing we have produced.

Chocolate Smoothie Water Park – Kieran Squire
The chocolate smoothie water park is a non healthy swimming paradise. Even the water slides run with chocolate smoothie but if you’re a kid you ride with an adult gummy bear which you can eat at the end! Or if you just want to relax use one of our chocolate square relaxing floats. Terms and conditions, no fruit or vegetables and child - free entry!

My Super Sweet Home – Moiyah Jackson
Come to my mouth-watering home, entirely made from sweets and chocolate! Outside there are lolly pop trees and a pit full of marshmallows! The path to the house is made of tiny jelly bean like stones. Inside leads you to the kitchen. The taps are either hot chocolate or cool chocolate milkshake. Each room is the best place ever to me. There are pink fluffy candy-floss pillows, multi coloured huggable gummy bears and so much more! Come to my super sweet home!

Today we were learning how to write a set of clear instructions to make a Victoria Sponge cake. Mrs Griffiths tried to explain to Miss Allford how to make the cake. However, Mrs Griffiths was not using any imperative 'bossy' verbs! Fortunately, year 5 were on hand to help. The children thought of many imperative verbs to make a 'successful' cake! Well done Year 5.

Class 8 engaged with a 'Big Write' exercise this morning.

We walked around the school listening, feeling, smelling for the change of seasons from summer to autumn.

The children then wrote poems using some of the language we discussed and the inspiration from our walk.

Well- what a lovely start to the school year! The children have settled in beautifully; producing good work in class and for homework. They seem to be very interested in our theme and are keen to discover all about Africa.
We already have some thrilling events lined up. We are visiting the Cotswold Widlife Park to learn more about African animals and habitats. The staff are very excited and we hope the children are too!
The year 4 children are also lucky enough to benefit from working with a drama specialist starting from next week. They have already met with Mr Clay and they will be exploring the theme of a "healthy mind and body" which is the title of the school's Comenius project.

Year 3 had a fantastic trip to Over Farm, even though there was a downpour at one point. We picked delicious strawberries, tried Asparagus straight from the field and harvested rubarb which some of us cooked and tasted back at school .

We fed the animals and collected eggs from the hens. Mrs Russell really liked the piglets and ostriches!

In the farm shop we looked at the produce and checked out how many miles it had travelled. Some food came from Mexico!

Thank you to Mo Braham of Over Farm for a thoroughly enjoyable and well organised trip.

Y5 Planetarium

A GIANT inflateable planetarium whisked Year 5 away on a journey through the solar system and beyond.

This out-of-the -world experience was brought to the school hall by 'Space Odyssey' - a mobile planetarium run by Simon Ould. We learnt about the Sun, Earth and Moon as well as the other planets and stars. We were able to see a 360 degree view of the solar system above our heads!!! It was a super start to our space theme.

Year 3 have been busy making Roman Shields as part of their Roman Invasion theme. They thought about the properties of the materials that the Romans would have used to make them really strong.

A Roman Soldier came to visit and brought his full size shield! After he shared lots of information with us about the soldiers and the army, Year 3 went into the hall and learnt to march like soldiers. They made a 'tortoise', this was how the Roman army sometimes marched to protect themselves.

Coalway Chess Club is up and running and pupils are having great fun leaning how the different pieces move around the board. The league will be starting soon and there is some great competition ahead. Good luck to all who are taking part but remember, the most important thing is to learn the game and have fun!

Y3 Art - The Celts

Y3 had fun learning about The Celts through art activities.

This picture shows Y3 painting a life size picture of people who lived during Celtic Britain. Can you see the colourful designs that they used?

Some of us made jewellery because the Celts loved their jewellery. A group of us learned how to weave as this was how the Celts made their fabrics for their clothing.

We made round houses to show the types of housing the Celts used. They would use mud and straw, then grass would often grow on the roofs of the houses.

Inter-school sporting challenge

Year 5 pupils were invited by Mr. Tomley, from Lakers School, to RFDC leisure centre to take part in a fun inter-school sporting challenge. The children took part in a variety of team races and individual challenges such as long jump and throwing skills. Our school was divided into three teams and each team was assigned a Sports Leader from the college. It was a great morning with all the pupils taking part and having lots of fun.

On Friday 3rd December Year 5 experienced real Victorian School lessons from reciting poems and singing hymns to writing on chalk boards and reading from the Bible. The children were under strict rules: they were not allowed to speak, fidget or even put their hand up! Some children even got punished and had to wear the 'D' hat at the back of the classroom. A fun afternoon was had by all, although it was slightly scary!

Today, year 6 made their own chocolate product! After weeks of planning they created some very interesting and tasty chocolate products. The children were then able to taste and evaluate these tasty treats! Year 6 will be making their own cookbook to sell at the Christmas Fayre and Productions ~ keep an eye out for it!

Well done to year 6 for being so inventive and for being extremely sensible when making their chocolate product. They were all amazing!!

On Friday afternoon two acts from each class were put forward to show the rest of the school their special talent. We had a huge variety of acts including singing, dancing, cheer leading, joke telling, playing the electric guitar and to finish a super wheelchair wheelie!

Year 5 children were treated to an afternoon of PE run by some of the leaders from Lakers Secondary School. The children were kept entertained with a variety of exercises and team games. All the children had a super time and learnt some new skills.

On the 4th of November, Firefighter Adrian Davis came to school to speak to us about fire safety. During his visit he set us a challenge to design a fire safety poster and then returned this week to announce the winners. The winning children were then treated to a visit to the fire engine, as well as getting some super firefighter stickers.

Junior Leaders

Twelve Y6 pupils have become Junior Leaders! They have been working with Mr Tomley from Lakers School and with our staff at lunchtimes to provide activities for the rest of the school to join in with. They are very responsible, putting out equipment and ensuring lots of pupils get involved and have even designed some activities themselves. Don't they look smart in their sweatshirts? Thank you to Mr Tomley and Lakers for providing these.

Wow! Did you see Year 4 in their Harvest Assembly? They introduced the Seeds For Africa Charity to the school and explained how we can help children in Africa to grow their own fruit and vegetables, providing them with the nutrition they need to grow strong and healthy. They give the children water, seeds, tools and trees to shade the growing vegetables.

You can help by donating any loose change you don't need to our collection (Mrs. Martin would be happy to receive any donations) and by supporting our Non-Uniform Day.

It made us feel excited to be helping some children of our own age to enjoy life that little bit more and very grateful for having so much healthy food available for us to eat.

Cotswold Wildlife Park

Oh dear - were things ever so wild in the Cotswolds as when Year 4 hit the ground? We had a great time learning about the animals of Africa. Do you know why giraffes have black tongues? We do! It was a fab day and the weather was great.

We walked through the Madagascar enclosure and had great fun as the lemurs watched us watching them, then we saw those gorgeous meerkats - Mrs. Moore would have loved it. There was so much to see and learn and a good time was had by all.

The adults were a bit quiet on the bus going home though... they just couldn't keep up the pace!!!!!

Year 4 Faith Bebbington

Y3 were fortunate to be able to work with Faith Bebbington, an artist from Liverpool. First we looked at some figures that Faith had made and then we created a forest using willow frameworks, newspaper and packaging tape. You can see them on display in the entrance of school. Cadbury World

Year 6 visited Cadbury World as part of their theme on Aztecs and Chocolate. We walked around the factory and saw how chocolate was made. We even had some free tasters of Curly Wurlys and Buttons!

We watched the workers moulding and decorating chocolate. We even had a go at writing our names in chocolate and saw this amazing teapot made out of chocolate!

We looked at how the Aztecs used to live and how important chocolate was to them.

We all had an amazing day at Cadbury World ~ we enjoyed the ride looking at cocoa beans from around the world and we especially enjoyed the free samples! We also learnt alot about how the Cadbury Brothers started the factory and the development of chocolate.

Victorious Victorians!

Today year 5 visited the Dean Heritage Centre to help them to learn more about life during the Victorian times.

During their trip, they were involved in 2 workshops - One being the Victorian Schoolroom and the other, a Forester's Cottage, restored to what it would have been like during the Victorian times.

Mrs.Cartwright dancing with a pirate!

On the 20th September a theatre company called M and M came to do a play for us called Treasure Island. I thought it was really good because there were only 5 actors and they played all the different characters in the story. I found it amazing how they could get changed so quickly and also how they changed the backgrounds for each of the different scenes. I liked the character Jim Hawkins because she was a really good actor and had lots of words to learn.

I would love for them to come and do another play for us here at Coalway because they were BRILLIANT!!!!

Rainbow Groups

Today we started our rainbow groups again. Todays session was all about getting to know each other and working on developing our team building skills. We all had lot's of fun and enjoyed meeting our new rainbow group teacher. Next week we are continuing our theme on team building skills. Aztec Food Tasting

Year 6 tasted different food to try to figure out where the Aztecs originated from. Mrs White managed to appear just in time for tasting the dark chocolate!!Once they had figured out the country of origin they identified the country in an atlas. Papaya, avacado and even guava was tried but not all was liked!

Greek Pots

Last week, year 5 used their fantastic history skills to find out about Greek pottery. They learnt about what they were used for and what they looked like.

Once they had done this, they made their own versions of Greek pots using clay. I think you will agree that they are unique, effective and authentic looking!

The Official Opening of The Main Place

The official opening of The Main Place in Coleford took place on Friday 1st July. Year 4 were asked to perform the unofficial anthem of the Forest of Dean~ The Land Between Two Rivers, written by Dick Brice. Mark Harper, the Forest of Dean MP, said that the children were truly amazing and then asked to join them in a repeat performance of the song. Gracie then sang a solo of the National Anthem before being joined by everyone else.

The Year 4 children have been learning about the importance of clean water and how some countries do not have clean water. They decided they wanted to raise money to help the charity WaterAid. The children discussed ideas for games and stalls related to water. They then made jellies and bookmarks to sell at the fund raising event. It was a great success and the Year4 would like to thank all the children and parents that came and took part in the fun! The total raised was an amazing £182 !!!!!

It is true, that by the time you have finished reading this blog, another child will have died from drinking dirty water~ this is why we decided to support this charity.

Year 6 World cup Animation

This week a group of year 6 children have been very busy creating their own World cup animations. They created the films using 'I can animate' and they also had to use their artistic talent to make the backdrop and characters. They had lots of fun creating the music using 'Dance Ejay'and the sound effects by screaming and blowing a vuvuzela as loud as they could!!

Year 4 Boat Trip

On Monday, the year 4 visited Gloucester Docks and the British Waterways museum as part of their work on water. The day included a workshop on building bridges and the chance to see some different bridges in action during a journey down the canal.

This week, year 5 have been combining science facts and maths skills to create mini skeletons of themselves!

To do this they measured how long key bones in their body were (e.g. spine, skull and rib cage) and then worked out what a quarter size of them would be.

Then they used this information to create moving mini skeletons, just like them!

To finish off our Arts week all the children took part in various performances throughout the afternoon, which included: dance, drumming, recorder playing, singing and poetry reading. All the wonderful art work, created during the week, was displayed and shared with family and friends.

As part of the arts week, year 4 went to visit Symmonds Yat rock to be inspired by the view of the river. They then went to the sculpture trail to see how other artists have used the Forest of Dean for the inspiration for their art work.

Year 5 have been lucky enough to work with a fantastic artisit named Faith Bebbington. Today we made model people and even dressed them! We only used two pieces of wire, newspaper and tape! Tomorrow we are finishing our amazing sculptures and you will be able to see the completed sculpture on our Music, Drama and Art afternoon on Friday!! Thankyou Faith for an excellent and excting day!

Today class 5 performed their assembly all about the heart.

The assembly started off with an extreme workout, with a rather energetic aerobics instructor...

Followed by an explanation about how the human heart worked (with some rather mad looking scientists) ...

And finally, the class finished off with a Greek tearjerker... all about love (ahhh)!

We think that the class performed the assembly with a good mix of information and entertainment!

Year 3 The Good Life

As part of Year 3's topic 'The Good Life' they have been digging and planting the various vegetables they have grown from seed in class.

These are just some of the vegetables they have planted: potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, peas, cabbage and lettuce.

Romeo and Juliet

As part of their study on the works of William Shakespeare, Year 6 produced a super assembly today, performing the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet to an enthralled audience! All the children performed brilliantly and everyone was entertained by some appropriately tragic music chosen by Mr Barrow!

The Heart!

Year 5 have been looking at the heart. Ms Beard and Mrs Hoare kindly drew a heart on the playground and we travelled around the heart pretending to be oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. We clicked our fingers to create a pulse for our heart.

Molly said 'It was really fun and I learnt quite alot'.

Nathan thought 'It was a really good learning activity which was fun'.

Brodie said 'It was interesting and excellent at the same time'.

Lizzie said 'It was a fun way of learning'.

Year 6 Screen Printing

Tennis Coaching

Following the tennis course Mr.Rodway attended, as well as getting free equipment, we also have five Wednesday morning coaching sessions. All classes will have 2 sessions each.

The day was all about working together as teams, learning about Lakers school and having some fun! The day involved maths problems, a recycled fashion show and a quiz tour of the school.

Rainbow Groups~ Cooperation Games

This afternoon Rainbow groups were talking about what is cooperation. Green, blue and orange groups went outside to work as a team to solve the challenge of passing a hoop without breaking the chain of holding hands. They had to work as a team to pass the hoop down the line as quickly as possible. A competition was held to see which group could complete the task the quickest~ Blue group (with Mrs.Moore cheering them on!!!!) won the first round. Green group (with Mrs. Martin and Mrs.Timmins) then had a brilliant idea of how to complete the challenge in a different way~ they followed the hoop along the line using the first person (who had a free hand) to help. Second round was won by the green group!!!! Congratulations to Mrs.Egginton's orange group, who despite not winning continued to work as a team and had excellent team spirit.

New Tennis Equipment!

Class 3 would like to say a huge thank you to Mr.Rodway who brought lots of new tennis equipment back from a course he went on. They had great fun playing tennis with a real net and super rackets.

Class 3: The River Game

Class 3 were set the challenge of crossing an imaginary river using a set of hoops. The children had to use one smaller hoop to link the larger hoops together. However they had to get everyone across and were not allowed to throw the small hoop.

Here are just a few of our amazing pirate purses that we completed last term. The children worked extremely hard with their sewing skills to make them. The stick on jewels were a favourite with some of the children as you can see from the picture above! Some children were glad that they had added the message of 'Keep Out' because at the end of the term the purses had a visit from the Easter bunny who kindly left chocolate coins inside them for the children.

A number of children added their initials~super sewing! The children (and Mrs.Moore) would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs.Howe and Mrs. Ward who very kindly gave their time to help with the sewing sessions.

Today, year 5, received the Olympic torch from year 6. They proudly strolled around the school grounds holding the olympic torch with pride. They were honoured that they could hold something so great!
Year 5 have researched what Greece is like as a country today and created some tourist guides.

Today, year 5 have embarked upon a space day - a day to celebrate all things spacey!

The day started off with everyone in year 5 coming into school dressed up as aliens, spacemen and stars (to name but a few!)

They have spent the day trying out lots of different fun activities, including:

Making an alien animation
Watching a space film and
Space senses

This week, each class is getting a chance to spend time on the Gloucestershire Life Education bus.

Today was the chance for class 5.

Class 6 Reading Assembly

Class 6 wrote and performed their own assembly on reading. It was a fun, interesting assembly with a great acrostic reading rap written by the class. The assembly ended with Jack reading a bedtime story to the whole school!

Class 6 also introduced the Coalway Junior School reading challenge. By reading 26 different things and having them signed by an adult you can be in with the chance of winning a £5 WHSmith voucher and helping your team win the Reading challenge cup!!

Well done Class 6 ~ you are all fab!!!

Knex Challenge

This week, year 5 have been designing and making 'space' themed board games.

Both classes 5 and 6 put a huge amount of effort into making their games fun, unique and well presented. They then wrote instructions on how to play them.

The two classes swapped their games over and followed each others instructions to see how well they had written them! It was a great chance for children to show off their great writing skills and to learn what they were doing well when writing instructions.

A Royal Visitor!

Last Thursday, Year four had a royal visitor! King Henry VIII surprised the children in classes 3 and 4 when he announced ' Arise my loyal subjects' as he stomped into the hall. The children could not believe their eyes as stood in front of them was the most realistic impersonator of King Henry VIII, Good King Hal.

The day started with an interesting talk about Tudor Monarchs, Tudor life, The wives of Henry VIII and lots of gossip about life in the Tudor palaces. Following this talk the children were challenged to complete a quiz on the information learnt~ Well Done to Jack. H who scored 20/20! The children were also given the chance to design their own Coat of Arms. Everything was going well until out came the stocks~ which children were going to be punished?!Alex. M and Natasha. M were placed in the stocks along with Mrs. Moore. But that was not the end of the punishments~ poor Jacob.D was called out and used to demonstrate how Tudors were Hung, Drawn and Quartered and we were shown how people who begged were treated with Jack.H being branded with a hot poker (not really).

The day ended with a fantastic jousting tournament between the boys and girls with the winning team being: Chloe.P, Keira.E and Millie.W WELL DONE GIRLS!

A brilliant, fun, educational day was had by all.

Library Opening

Today was the official opening of the new Coleford Library and our school was invited.

Class 6 made the visit today and over the coming weeks we are hoping that each class will visit. The libary has lots of new books and even a Wii!!Class 6 were very impressed with the library, which even has an internet cafe. The library is decorated in funky colours and even has 'doughnut' shaped rings so you can sit on the carpet and read a good book.

Today, year 5 held their own NASA style rocket launch, blasting their own hand-made rockets into space (well nearly into space!) on the school field.

It was a fun afternoon, despite a few people getting a bit wet!

Run Forest (of Dean) Run!!

On December 4th 2009, George, James, Kieran, Jordan, Kirsten and Hannah from year 6 and Nathan from year 5, represented Coalway Junior School at Heywood School cross country event.

Here is a report of the event by James, who not only is a great runner but a brilliant reporter too!

"Everyone got warmed up and saw the track. Finally the race started with 67 girls and 66 boys. The boys were up first and many people rushed off but some fell back. Three quarters of the way through the first lap James managed to get into first place on the outside. A lap had gone and James was still in first and had Kieran, who was from Redmarley, chasing him down. With just 20 meters to go James had a great lead and he went to wrong way! The boy behind was sprinting as fast as he could but James just snatched the win! Nathan came 18th and Kieran finishing 20th.

Up next the girls. The only two Coalway girls were Hannah and Kirsten. The race started and both Kirsten and Hannah had a good start, they must have been 15th and 16th. All the way through the race the girls stuck together and finished the race in 37th and 40th. A big WELL DONE for everyone who competed in the races and helped to cheer on Coalway."

A Hamper for Haiti

Thursday 28th January we had a successful non-uniform day to raise money for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Year 3 have made a chocolate hamper which they are raffling off to raise money for the appeal. Tickets are just 10p each and will be on sale until the end of lunch time tomorrow (Friday 29th). So get your money and buy a ticket or two - it's well worth the effort!

The draw will take place on Monday in Assembly.....

Caerleon Capers

Wednesday 27th January, Year 3 descended on Caerleon to visit the Roman Legionary Museum. We had great fun and we learned a lot! Mr. Jones introduced us to the gallery where we saw hundreds of artifacts from the Roman Occupation of Caerleon or Isca as they called it. You can see the model of a Roman Legionary in this picture. It was very impressive (and a bit scary).

There were so many things to see but the most popular was the skeleton of an old Legionary in a stone coffin!

We visited the replica barracks where 8 men lived in a tiny room, tried on some mini armour and also learned about school in those times. Girls were thought to be too stupid to go to school so only boys were educated. The girls lazed around at home!

One of the most exciting moments was when the alarm went off and we all had to go outside until it was safe to go back into the museum.

The baths were amazing but we certainly didn't like the idea of oil and a strigil to get clean - give us soap and water any day.

Outside we were able to see the remains of the real barracks - there were so many tiny rooms for the soldiers to live in. We even saw the latrines (toilets) and were suddenly very grateful for toilet paper.

Finally we visited the amphitheatre. WOW! What an exhausting time. We marched in line to trumpets and drums and fought like gladiators. Then we had to line up for the decision of our parents - who had fought well enough to live (thumbs up) and who was for the push (thumbs down)! We almost all survived... No wonder we look a bit tense! Next we did some Roman exercises and marching. Mrs. Egginton would make a great Centurian, she certainly made us get our knees up when we marched.

We all agreed we'd had a fantastic but exhausting day and had learned a lot. It was really sad when we had to get back on the coach and return to school - we wanted to stay a bit longer.

At the end of the day we had just one question -"Can we go again?"

Homework superstars

Congratulations to all the children in this picture. They have been awarded ‘top homework’ books for terms 1 and 2. Some of these were chosen by a class vote and others by their class teachers. These homework books all show what great effort and hard work the children have put in, along with fantastically creative ideas to present their work. Each winner has been awarded a £5 gift voucher for their efforts.
